Julian Nagelsmann has blamed Eddie Howe’s tactical approach for Nick
Woltemade’s dip in form at Newcastle United.
Woltemade has not scored in the Premier League since December, with
Nagelsmann suggesting his role is limiting his impact.
He said the forward has “not had an easy time with Newcastle” and pointed out that
constant rotation means “they don’t have a striker that always plays.”
Nagelsmann added that the striker is often deployed too deep, explaining that “if he’s
defending as deep as a six, there are fewer opportunities for him to score,” and noting
“it’s unlikely for him to score” from such positions.
He also downplayed expectations, stating he “wouldn’t be expecting a 20-goal
season for him” under those conditions.
However, Nagelsmann insisted Woltemade would be used differently with Germany,
adding he “won’t be 80 meters away from goal… he’ll be 30 meters away, where he
can be dangerous.”
