OSCAR FORCED INTO EARLY RETIREMENT OVER HEART CONDITION.
Former Brazil international Oscar has retired at 34 after being diagnosed with a
cardiac condition; his club, São Paulo, confirmed.
The attacking midfielder had not played since November after collapsing during a
routine check, with doctors identifying vasovagal syncope, a condition affecting the heart
rate and blood flow.
Oscar confirmed the decision, saying he was “ending a career… that has taken me
practically to the four corners of the world.”
The former Chelsea star enjoyed a successful career in Europe and Asia, winning
two Premier League titles and a Europa League in England before claiming three
Chinese Super League titles with Shanghai Port.
He returned to São Paulo in 2025, bringing his journey full circle after earning 48
caps for Brazil and featuring at the 2014 World Cup.
