Nollywood Mourns as ‘Clarus’ Star Davis Ofor Passes Away
Veteran Nigerian actor Davis Ofor, widely known for his iconic role as Clarus in the classic 1980s sitcom New Masquerade, has died.
The news of his passing was announced by fellow actor Tony Akposheri in an emotional tribute shared on Instagram. Akposheri expressed shock and deep sadness, revealing that he had recently spent time with Ofor during the New Year.
“Today, my heart is heavy. Davis Ofor, fondly known as Clarus from New Masquerade, is gone,” he wrote. “We crossed into the New Year together, laughing, talking, sharing memories, and speaking hopefully about the days ahead. We spoke about life, about plans, about how far we had come. None of us knew that time was already counting differently for you.”
Ofor rose to national prominence through his memorable portrayal of Clarus, a role that endeared him to audiences and cemented his place as a household name in Nigerian television history.
Details surrounding the cause of his death have not been disclosed.
Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues and fans, celebrating his life and legacy. Akposheri described the late actor as more than just a screen presence, but a man of warmth, humour, and vibrant energy.
“You were more than a familiar face on screen. You were a friend, a brother, a man with warmth, humour, and a presence that could light up any space,” he wrote. “It is hard to believe that the voice I heard not long ago is now a memory. Hard to accept that someone so full of life can suddenly become a story we tell.”
He concluded with a heartfelt farewell: “Rest well, my friend. You came, you gave joy, you made your mark, and you will never be forgotten.”
Ofor’s death marks the end of an era for many Nigerians who grew up watching New Masquerade, a show that remains a cornerstone of the country’s television heritage.
