‘I Celebrate Divorce’: Bovi Says No One Should Suffer in an Unhappy Marriage
Nigerian stand-up comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma has sparked conversations on marriage and relationships after declaring that he supports divorce in situations where couples are no longer happy together.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Morayo Show, the comedian argued that ending an unhealthy marriage is often a healthier option than remaining in a relationship that causes emotional distress.
“I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or both people were not breathing well in the marriage. I will not suffer anybody, nor will I want anybody to suffer me,” Bovi said.
Despite his support for divorce in troubled unions, Bovi clarified that his position should not be mistaken for a disregard of marriage as an institution. Reflecting on his personal life, he revealed that his own 17-year marriage has faced its share of challenges.
“That is not to say my marriage has been easy for 17 years. It has not. I got married at 29. I have been providing for 17 years nonstop,” he stated.
The entertainer also addressed the traditional expectation that men should serve as the primary providers in their homes. While acknowledging that role, he encouraged women to pursue their ambitions and attain financial independence.
According to him, women who are motivated to contribute financially to their households deserve recognition and appreciation for their efforts.
“If a woman’s passion drives her to provide, her contributions should be recognised and respected,” he added.
Bovi’s remarks have since generated discussions online, with many weighing in on his views about marriage, divorce, and shared responsibilities within the family.
