According to a report from the New York Times on Friday, Donald Trump’s transition team has devised executive orders and proclamations to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement and reduce the size of certain national monuments to facilitate increased drilling and mining activities.
Additionally, Trump is anticipated to lift the ban on new permits for liquefied natural gas exports to major markets in Asia and Europe, as well as rescind a waiver that permits California and other states to impose stricter pollution regulations.
These actions align with promises made by Trump during his campaign. Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the transition team, responded to a request from Reuters by stating that the election results provide Trump with a “mandate to fulfill his campaign commitments.”
In January, President Joe Biden’s administration halted the approval of new LNG exports to conduct an analysis of the environmental and economic ramifications. An official from the U.S. Energy Department mentioned that a draft of the updated analysis will be released for a 60-day public comment period before the year’s end. Some people on the transition team are discussing moving the headquarters of the Environmental Protection Agency out of Washington, the report said, citing unnamed people involved in the discussions.
