The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission in a public notice released has made it known that they are aware that some Distribution Companies (DisCos) have instructed customers to apply and pay for the replacement of faulty and obsolete meters within their franchise areas. The public notice also confirms that the instruction from the Discos contravene the commission’s order No. NERC/246/2021 on the structured replacement of faulty and obsolete end-user customer meters in Nigeria.
The NERC has therefore directed distribution companies (DisCos) to replace obsolete meters for their customers at no cost. This was made known in a statement released by the commission’s management. NERC emphasized that the cost of replacing meters is the responsibility of the distribution companies.
