Bookstores have reportedly run out of stock of the book “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System” written by activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi. Global retail giant Amazon has also listed the book as its number-one best-seller in global politics.

Published in July 2024, the book gained international attention following the arrest of Farotimi, allegedly orchestrated by Afe Babalola. In one paragraph, Farotimi criticized Babalola for his high-handedness within Nigeria’s judicial system and for using it as a tool of oppression.

The book critically examines the flaws in Nigeria’s justice system, highlighting how corruption and the influence of the powerful have undermined its integrity. Described as a wake-up call for reform, it has sparked widespread discussions for its bold critique of systemic failings.

Reports indicate that Farotimi was taken from Lagos to Ekiti State, where he was arraigned on Wednesday morning and remanded in custody pending a bail hearing on December 20.

The high demand for the book has led to shortages across various outlets, both physical and online, as readers eagerly seek its insights on the state of Nigeria’s judiciary.

The book’s popularity reflects growing public concern about accountability and justice in the country. Book retailers are working to restock, but availability remains limited due to the surge in interest.
