BREAKING: Court Grants Dele Farotimi N50 Million Bail

Right activist and legal practitioner Dele Farotimi has been granted bail by the Ekiti State Magistrate Court hearing Afe Babalola’s defamation case.

The bail conditions stipulate a sum of N50 million and a surety of the same amount, with the surety required to possess a landed property. The case will return to court on 29 January 2025 for further proceedings.

Farotimi was taken to court by Chief Afe Babalola, SAN, following his arrest by operatives from the Ekiti State Police Command.

Chief Afe Babalola, 95, accused Farotimi of defamation in his book, ‘’Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System’’

The arrest has provoked widespread outrage across the country, leading civil society organisations and the Nigerian Bar Association to demand the activist’s release

Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, shared this development on his X handle on Monday

‘’Dele Farotimi was granted bail of N50 million surety in the like sum with someone with landed property. The case was adjourned to 29 January 2025”’ Sowore posted
