Tinubu Arrives Ghana Ahead of Mahama’s Inauguration

President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Ghana’s capital, Accra, ahead of the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama, set for Tuesday, January 7.

Tinubu, who departed Lagos earlier on Monday, was received by the Chief of Staff to Ghanaian President Julius Debrah, upon arrival.

The Nigerian president, accompanied by senior government officials including the Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo Olu and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, is attending the event at the invitation of Mahama, a longstanding ally and former Ghanaian leader.

Mahama, who served as president from 2011 to 2017, was reelected in December and will succeed outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to a release issued on Sunday by a presidential spokesperson, President Tinubu’s trip to Accra is at the invitation of the president-elect, who had visited the Nigerian leader earlier in December 2024.

As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu is joining several African leaders at the historic event.
