Subomi and Wahab Okoya, sons of billionaire industrialist Razaq Okoya, has been summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning over alleged naira abuse. Recently, a video surfaced on social media showing the siblings celebrating by spraying naira notes. Subomi and Wahab were seen dancing to a song in the video while a police officer held large bundles of fresh banknotes for them.

According to a notification from Michael Wetkas, the Acting Director of the Lagos Directorate of the EFCC, the brothers are required to report to the head of the Special Operations Team at the agency’s office on Awolowo Road in Lagos at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025.

Prior reports indicated that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has detained the officer involved in the video, deeming his actions inappropriate and pledging to subject him to disciplinary measures.

The Central Bank of Nigeria Act strictly prohibits the irresponsible handling of the nation’s currency, imposing penalties of up to six months in prison, a fine of N50,000, or both for those convicted of such offenses.

  1. The law against abuse of naira is clear and straight forward. Nigerians are watching if there will be a different law for the Okoyas.
