Afenifere Chieftain Pa Ayo Adebanjo has passed away. He died peacefully on Friday morning at his residence in Lekki, Lagos, at the age of 96.
In a statement released by the family, they expressed their gratitude for the selfless life he led in service to God, the nation, and humanity, announcing the loss of their beloved patriarch, Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo.
Recognized as a prominent nationalist, elder statesman, and distinguished lawyer, he was a notable politician and an advocate for true federalism. He served as the former organizing secretary of the Action Group and was the national leader of Afenifere. He is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, along with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family emphasized their deep appreciation for his unwavering commitment to truth, equity, and justice. His relentless pursuit for a truly independent and progressive Nigeria was a lifelong endeavor that he maintained until his last breath.
They are currently in discussions with Papa’s friends, associates, and various interest groups from across Nigeria and beyond to finalize arrangements for a fitting funeral, details of which will be shared in due course.
