Pope Francis is currently facing a serious health challenge as he battles double pneumonia. However, the Vatican reported that he experienced a peaceful night and was able to rest following a respiratory crisis and the administration of blood transfusions.

In a brief update on Sunday morning, the Vatican stated, “The night was tranquil, the pope rested,” but did not provide additional details. Another update on his health status is anticipated later in the day.

The 88-year-old pontiff was admitted to Gemelli Hospital in Rome on February 14 after struggling with breathing difficulties for several days, which led to the diagnosis of pneumonia in both lungs. The Vatican had previously described his condition as critical, noting that he required supplemental oxygen and blood transfusions after suffering from a severe respiratory crisis resembling asthma.

During this challenging time, Pope Francis has remained alert and spent his day in an armchair, although he reported experiencing more discomfort than the previous day. His treatment included high-flow oxygen to assist with his breathing, and medical tests indicated low platelet counts, prompting the need for transfusions.
