Former governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has debunked stories making the rounds online that he has left the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a post on his X handle on Monday, Fayemi reiterated that he remains a card-carrying foundation member of the ruling party.

He said that even though he has been championing demands for better internal democracy and inclusion within the APC, he believes that it is still not too late for the party to change.

His post reads, “Nothing Has Changed – Fayemi. My attention has been drawn to a story circulating on several online platforms regarding my defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC). As I have had cause to state in the past, I am a card-carrying foundation member of the APC, and this position has not changed.

“While I have been at the vanguard of demand for greater internal democracy and inclusion in the ruling party, I believe it is still not late for our party to change course and move towards greater inclusion and internal democracy.”

Fayemi’s clarification comes on a day former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, decamped from the APC to the Social Democratic PARTY (PDP).

In a statement he issued on Monday, El-Rufai expressed his disappointment with the APC’s leadership style, accusing the leadership of the party of straying from the progressive ideals of its founding members.
