KANE MISSES LATE CHANCE AS RESOLUTE GHANA FRUSTRATE ENGLAND TO A DRAW
Ghana produced a disciplined defensive display to hold England to a 0-0 draw in Group L on Tuesday, frustrating the Three Lions and earning a valuable point in their World Cup campaign.
England dominated possession throughout the contest but struggled to break down a well-organised Ghana side that defended with determination and physicality.
The best chance of the match fell to Harry Kane in the closing stages after Nico O’Reilly’s header struck the crossbar and rebounded kindly into his path, but the England captain blazed his effort over the bar.
England coach Thomas Tuchel was quick to acknowledge the challenge posed by Ghana.
“Full respect to Ghana,” Tuchel said. “They defended with a lot of determination, discipline and one of the most physical performances that I saw from a team defending.”
Despite the frustration of dropping points, Tuchel remained upbeat about England’s prospects.
“We always try to entertain our fans. It was difficult today. I hope they don’t lose belief. There’s a long way to go,” he said.
The draw leaves England on four points and firmly on course for the Round of 32, while Ghana remain in contention heading into the final round of group matches.
