The Emir of Kano and Khalifah of Tijaniyya, Muhammadu Sanusi II has supported the ban on this year’s Sallah Durbar, stressing that the decision was necessary for peace and stability in the state. Sanusi, while speaking at an Iftar dinner at the palace, characterized the Durbar as a significant cultural tradition but not essential to the well-being of Kano’s residents.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria further emphasized that peace is the foundation of societal progress and affirmed the Emirate’s decision to suspend all planned Durbar activities. His remarks followed the announcement by the Kano State Police Commissioner, CP Adamu Bakori who quoted security threats as the reason for the prohibition.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf who was represented by Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Ibrahim Faruq lauded Sanusi’s leadership and determination to public safety. Equally, Professor Shehu Galadanci, Murshid of the National Mosque praised the Emir’s wisdom—reaffirming that the protection of lives and property must take precedence over cultural festivities.
