As the sun rose on April 5, 2025, the Waka Community International Foundation, Chevron Neighborhood branch in Lagos gathered to celebrate a remarkable milestone: the 70th birthday of Dr. Steve Uwazie. A figure of inspiration and dedication, Dr. Steve Uwazie embodies the spirit of commitment to his community, and the celebration was a testament to the profound impact he has made over the decades.

Dr. Uwazie has been a stalwart member of the Waka community, consistently attending events and actively participating in initiatives that uplift those around him. Just a few days prior to his birthday, he showcased his unwavering spirit by participating in a 9.4 km walkathon organized by the Waka Community International. His presence at such events serves as a reminder of the importance of community engagement and personal wellness, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.

Born with a passion for leadership, Dr. Uwazie was the Senior Prefect and soccer captain during his secondary school years, a role that foreshadowed his future contributions to society. His athleticism continued as he became a member of the East Central State Football Academicals, demonstrating his dedication to teamwork and sportsmanship.

After pursuing higher education, Dr. Uwazie ventured to New York, where he not only completed his graduate studies but also took on the role of DJ, showcasing his diverse talents. His academic journey culminated in a Ph.D. in Information Technology, a testament to his commitment to knowledge and innovation.

Professionally, Dr. Uwazie’s career flourished as he served as the Country Manager for IBM across West Africa and South Africa, where he played a pivotal role in advancing technology in the region. Even now, as a cyber security student, he continues to upskill, demonstrating that the pursuit of knowledge knows no age limits.

The Chevron Neighbourhood Waka community group recognized Dr. Uwazie’s contributions in a heartfelt celebration, honoring a man whose life has been a beacon of hope and inspiration for many. His devotion to the Waka community and his relentless pursuit of excellence serve as an example for younger generations to aspire to.
