The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to address the security challenges bedeviling the country. National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu disclosed this during a visit to Makurdi, Benue State where he sympathized with the government and people following recent attacks.
Speaking to journalists, Ribadu acknowledged that the present administration inherited a deeply troubled security landscape but stressed that remarkable progress has been made. He traced the roots of Nigeria’s insecurity to over 15 years ago—characterizing it as criminality rather than issues driven by politics, religion or ethnicity.
He underscored that insecurity is a global issue, referencing countries like Sudan, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso and Afghanistan as examples. Ribadu maintained that no part of Nigeria is currently under the control of bandits—noting that the government has adopted a new, proactive approach to combating the crisis.
Ribadu, while conveying President Tinubu’s condolences, urged Nigerians to avoid politicizing security matters and to support the government’s efforts. He lauded the armed forces for their commitment and appealed for public cooperation to consolidate ongoing gains—affirming that the fight against insecurity remains a top priority for the administration.
