Five suspected kidnappers said to have been terrorizing Ubulu-Uku, Issele-Uku, Issele-Asagba and surrounding areas in Delta State have been killed by operatives of the Delta State Police Command.

The Command’s spokesperson – SP Bright Edafe confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday. He said the breakthrough followed credible intelligence that led operatives to one of the gang’s hideouts in the Agu-Amawbia forest in neighbouring Anambra State where an AK-47 rifle and 132 rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

Edafe explained that further investigation took the police to another location—a forest between Issele-Asagba and Otulu communities where they encountered more gang members including a notorious suspect identified as Bellow Abubakar. The kidnappers, on sighting the operatives, reportedly opened fire—sparking a fierce gun battle.

The operatives, according to the police, prepared for the confrontation and responded decisively—overwhelming the criminals who fled in different directions with gunshot wounds. Five of the suspects, including Abubakar were found critically injured and rushed to a hospital where they were confirmed dead.

In the course of the operation, two additional AK-47 rifles and 18 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from the scene. The police say a manhunt is currently underway to track down the remaining members of the gang who managed to escape.

The Delta State Police Command reassured residents of its determination to ensuring the safety of communities across the state.
