Porto and Al Ahly produced a FIFA Club World Cup classic at MetLife Stadium, sharing eight goals in a chaotic 4-4 draw that ultimately saw both sides crash out of Group A.

Neither team had scored from open play before kick-off, but they more than made up for it in New Jersey’s blistering 32°C heat.

Al Ahly struck first through Wessam Abou Ali after a clever pass from Hamdy Fathy, punishing Porto for an earlier missed chance.

Rodrigo Mora, left out of the previous match, responded with a moment of brilliance, gliding past two defenders before rounding the keeper to level.

But Al Ahly struck again before half-time, with Abou Ali converting a penalty after Zizo was brought down.

The second half began at a blistering pace. William Gomes scored his first Porto goal with a lovely finish before Abou Ali headed home to complete a superb hat-trick, his second in just six CWC appearances.

Then, Samu, brought on at the break, nodded in from a corner to make it 3-3.

Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane curled home a beautiful effort to give Al Ahly the lead for the fourth time.

They had chances to seal it but were wasteful, while Porto also squandered a golden opportunity when Samu headed wide from close range.

Then, in the 89th minute, veteran defender Pepe unleashed a thunderbolt from distance to rescue a point.
