Athletic Club have re-signed Aymeric Laporte from Al Nassr after FIFA approved the Spanish defender’s transfer.

The Basque club first moved for Laporte on September 1, but the deal stalled when Al Nassr failed to register the move in FIFA’s system before the deadline.

A later request for an exception was rejected, but the transfer was finally completed on Thursday with Laporte signing a three-year contract.

The 31-year-old made 222 appearances for Athletic before leaving for Manchester City in 2018, where he won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three League Cups and the Champions League. He joined Al Nassr in 2023.

Athletic, second in LaLiga with three wins from three, face Alaves on Saturday.
