The Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a swipe at Governor Dapo Abiodun, condemning his recent appointment of 1,200 political aides as a “reckless misuse of public funds” disguised as grassroots democracy.

In a strongly worded statement signed by its chairman, Otunba Olufemi Soluade, the ADC said the appointments represent a serious misplacement of priorities at a time when Ogun residents are reeling from rising living costs, poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, and high unemployment.

“This policy is daylight robbery. It is a political smokescreen meant to secure the governor’s 2027 ambitions rather than serve the needs of the people,” the statement read.

The party accused Governor Abiodun of turning governance into a patronage system, arguing that state resources are being diverted to reward political loyalists instead of addressing the root causes of poverty.

“This is not empowerment, it is tokenism. While ordinary citizens are struggling to survive, the government is busy dishing out public funds to cronies. It is insensitive, irresponsible, and an insult to the people of Ogun State,” Soluade said.

The ADC further urged the administration to focus on policies that create jobs, stimulate wealth generation, and deliver inclusive development rather than “recycled handouts” presented as empowerment schemes.

Calling on civil society groups, opposition parties, and residents to resist what it called a “blatant attack on the state’s future,” the ADC insisted that governance must be about service, not survival politics.

“Ogun deserves visionary leadership, not wasteful politics masquerading as inclusion,” Soluade concluded, reaffirming the party’s commitment to holding the government accountable and exposing policies that put political interests above citizens’ welfare.
