The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, has praised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi, for withdrawing his appeal before the Supreme Court.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ajulo described the former Deputy Governor’s action as “patriotic and statesmanlike,” noting that it reflects Ajayi’s resolve to put the interest of Ondo State above partisan politics.
Ajulo confirmed that his office had taken note of Ajayi’s letter dated September 16, 2025, formally withdrawing appeal No. SC/CV/757/2025 against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and three others.
“This decision is a rare demonstration of statesmanship, maturity, and commitment to democratic stability,” Ajulo said. “It underscores Ajayi’s dedication to peace, harmony, and collective progress in Ondo State.”
The Attorney General added that the move further affirms Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s overwhelming victory in the November 2024 governorship election, the first in Ondo’s history where a candidate won in all 18 local government areas and where a legal challenge was not pursued to the very end.
Ajulo also thanked PDP leaders, particularly Chief Eddy Olafeso, for supporting the reconciliation process, and reiterated that he had earlier urged Ajayi to end what he called “endless litigation.”
Looking ahead, Ajulo said his office will work with the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment to launch a state-wide engagement platform for dialogue, reconciliation, and collective development efforts.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to fostering unity and creating an inclusive environment where leaders across party lines can contribute to governance.
