Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved the immediate dissolution of the Rivers State Pensions Board (RSPB), which had been recently inaugurated by the former sole administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd).
The board had been inaugurated on September 12 by Ibas shortly before the end of his administration.
At that time, Ibas charged the board members with resolving the long-standing pension challenges in the state and reforming the pension system for greater efficiency.
However, in a statement released on Friday evening and signed by the Head of Service, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, Governor Fubara directed that the functions formerly handled by the pension board should now be managed by the Office of the Accountant General of Rivers State.
The statement also instructed members of the now-dissolved board to surrender all assets and properties under their custody to the Director of Administration of the board.
It further stated that a new pensions board would be constituted by the governor in due course to oversee pension matters in Rivers State.
This action comes days after Governor Fubara returned to office and follows the lifting of the emergency rule in the state that had seen Ibok Ekwe Ibas acting as sole administrator.
