The All Progressives Congress (APC) has come down hard on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of laying the dangerous groundwork for the insecurity that continues to plague Nigeria.

The ruling party’s reaction followed Atiku’s recent statement condemning the terrorist attack in Wagga Mongoro, Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, which claimed several lives.

In a statement issued by its Adamawa State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Mohammed Abdullahi, the APC described Atiku’s comments as insensitive, politically motivated, and a case of shameless grandstanding in the face of tragedy.

“Atiku and the PDP administration in which he played a major role laid the very foundation for the insecurity tormenting Nigerians today. Ironically, the same Atiku, whose failures in leadership created fertile ground for this menace, is now attempting to weaponize the monster he midwifed in order to pursue his selfish ambition of destabilizing the country,” the statement read.

The APC further accused the former vice president of neglecting his home state while in power, claiming that instead of bringing federal projects to Adamawa, particularly to his hometown of Jada, he concentrated on private business interests.

The party also faulted Atiku for what it called his silence during the height of Boko Haram’s reign of terror in Adamawa and other parts of the North-East. According to the APC, Atiku is only now seeking to exploit ongoing security concerns after being largely indifferent when his people bore the brunt of insurgency.

“Now that the APC-led administration has made visible progress and peace is gradually being restored across Adamawa and the North-East, Atiku suddenly finds his voice not to unite the people but to play politics with their grief,” the APC charged.

The ruling party reassured residents of Adamawa and Nigerians at large of its continued commitment to supporting the armed forces and security agencies in stamping out terrorism and restoring lasting peace.

While commiserating with the families of victims affected by the Madagali killings, the APC prayed for healing for the injured and urged citizens to disregard what it termed Atiku’s “empty and self-serving posturing.”
