The city of Lagos is buzzing with anticipation as preparations intensify for the 2025 Lagos Women’s Run — a 10km race set to take place on November 8. The annual event, which celebrates women’s strength, unity, and resilience, is gearing up for what promises to be its most exciting edition yet.
Behind the scenes, planning committees have been meeting regularly with the Lagos State Sports Commission to fine-tune logistics, route safety, and participant engagement. All hands are on deck to ensure a seamless experience for runners and spectators alike.
The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, has charged the various committees to raise the bar this year, expressing confidence that the 2025 race will outshine previous editions.
“We’re building on the success of last year’s run to create something even more memorable,” Fatodu said. “Our focus is on improving coordination, community involvement, and overall participant satisfaction.”
The Lagos Women’s Run — launched in 2016 by Gym Assured Marathon and Road Race Organisation — has evolved from a simple fitness event into a powerful platform promoting women’s empowerment and wellness. Organised in partnership with the Lagos State Government and a coalition of women professionals, the initiative has inspired thousands across the state and is now eyeing national expansion.
Project coordinator Tayo Popoola revealed that planning is already in an advanced phase, with registration open and several pre-race programmes lined up.
“This year’s edition goes beyond the run itself,” Popoola explained. “We’re introducing educational and motivational sessions designed to inspire women in health, entrepreneurship, and leadership. It’s about celebrating the total woman — not just the athlete.”
Participants can look forward to a well-organised race experience, complete with branded running vests, bibs, medals, certificates, and goody bags filled with sponsors’ products.
Since its debut, the Lagos Women’s Run has grown into one of the most anticipated fitness and social events on the city’s calendar — uniting women from diverse backgrounds under a shared goal of strength, wellness, and sisterhood.
With the countdown officially on, all eyes are on Lagos as it prepares to welcome thousands of women to the streets — running not just for fitness, but for empowerment and purpose.
