Afrobeats superstar Davido is steering toward a new creative lane — the film industry. The award-winning singer revealed his plans to delve into acting and film production, expressing a desire to play an unconventional role as a taxi driver.
Speaking at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) during a panel session titled “Rhythms of the Continent: The Afrobeat Movement and Its Impacts on African Film,” Davido shared his excitement about collaborating with African filmmakers and telling authentic African stories.
“My brother was saying that he was going to give me a role. I told him I wanted to do something unexpected — maybe play a taxi driver or something out of the blue,” he said. “He has to figure that out. So I definitely want to get involved in movies.”
The “Unavailable” crooner also cited international music moguls like 50 Cent, who successfully transitioned into film and television production, as his inspiration.
Davido added that he hopes to produce films that showcase genuine African experiences, drawing creative influence from series like Uncorked.
