‘OUR COUNTRY DON GO’ — DAVIDO URGES CELEBRITIES TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST INJUSTICE
Afrobeats superstar Davido has called on Nigerian entertainers to become more vocal about the growing insecurity and injustice in the country, admitting that public figures, including himself, have not done enough to address national issues.
The award-winning singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the remarks in a series of posts shared on X on Saturday amid public outrage over recent security challenges across the country.
“I can’t lie, we entertainers… we dey fuck up, I won’t lie, including me. We need to speak up. It’s too much injustice going on. Our country don go,” Davido wrote.
The music star acknowledged that celebrities often face criticism regardless of whether they speak out or remain silent, but stressed the importance of acting according to one’s convictions.
“Talk, dem go abuse you. No talk, dem go still abuse you. Do wetin your heart tell you. No reason am. Still on still pray for Nigeria,” he added.
Davido also expressed sadness over the state of the nation and sympathised with victims of recent tragedies, describing the situation as deeply troubling.
“I’m weak. God please take control. We can’t continue like this. My heart goes out to the victims and family. This is messed up,” he wrote.
His comments come amid widespread condemnation of the recent abduction of pupils and teachers from a school in Oyo State. Reports indicate that two teachers were allegedly killed by their abductors following the incident, sparking renewed concerns about insecurity in the country.
Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian musician Falz has joined civil society organisations in demanding action over the abduction, calling for public protests and greater accountability from authorities.
Davido’s intervention has added to growing calls from prominent Nigerians urging leaders to tackle insecurity and protect citizens as concerns continue to mount across the country.
