The late Oba Makanjuola was born into a distinguished royal family in Ekusa, within the present-day Odo Otin Local Government area of Osun State, on July 2, 1939. His father, the late Samuel Adigun Makanjuola of the Oyelusi Ruling House, was instrumental in bringing Christianity to the area, overseeing the construction of St. Thomas Anglican Church, which was completed in 1946. This legacy of faith and leadership set the foundation for Oba Makanjuola’s life and service.

His educational journey began at St. Thomas Primary School in 1946, followed by Oro United School in Okuku, where he completed his standard six education in December 1953. Driven by a thirst for knowledge, he enrolled in Osun Divisional Teachers Grade III College in Ejigbo in 1955, subsequently working as a teacher at St. Michael’s Primary School in Osogbo. His quest for further education led him to St. Luke’s College in Ibadan in 1958, where he earned his Grade II Teacher’s Certificate. In 1968, he achieved a significant milestone by obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from the prestigious University of Ibadan.

Oba Makanjuola’s career was marked by notable positions, including teaching at Baptist High School in Iree and serving as the Chief Librarian at WNBS/WNTV, later known as BCOS. In 1990, he ascended to the role of Assistant Director of Research and Statistics, a position he held until the creation of Osun State in 1991. He concluded a remarkable 35-year career in the civil service at the end of that year. Following his retirement, he continued to serve his community selflessly, embodying kindness and generosity, long before his ascension as the Elekusa of Ekusa.
