In a heart-wrenching incident on Thursday, November 19, 2025, sixteen prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) tragically lost their lives in a bus accident while en route to the orientation camp in Gombe State. The victims, all students from Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) in Ondo State, were traveling in an 18-seater bus when the accident occurred.

Reports indicate that the bus, which was carrying a group of enthusiastic youth ready to embark on their national service, crashed under circumstances that are yet to be fully determined. Out of the passengers, only two individuals survived the crash. Authorities and emergency services responded promptly to the scene, providing assistance to the survivors and recovering the bodies of those who perished. The news has sent shockwaves through the university community and beyond, as students and faculty members mourn the loss of their peers.

In a statement, a representative from AFUED expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the families affected by this tragedy. “Our hearts go out to the families of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate accident. We are also praying for the swift recovery of the survivors,” the representative stated.

As investigations into the cause of the accident continue, the university community and the nation at large are left grappling with the profound loss of young lives full of potential.
