Barely one week after the abduction and subsequent release of 38 worshippers from Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, Eruku, Kwara State has again come under attack. At least 11 residents were reportedly kidnapped on Monday evening in Isapa, a neighbouring community in Ekiti Local Government Area.
According to information gathered by The PUNCH, the assault took place around 6pm when between 20 and 30 armed bandits invaded the quiet agrarian town with a large herd of cattle, shooting indiscriminately as residents scrambled for safety.
Witnesses told our correspondent that the attackers moved through multiple sections of the community, firing into homes and causing widespread panic.
Bullet marks were later seen on walls, windows and wooden doors, underscoring the intensity of the gunfire and the fear that gripped the town.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, said the command was still verifying the incident and would release an update once confirmed.
At the time of filing this report, neither the police nor the state government had issued an official statement.
The latest attack has heightened tension in Isapa, Eruku and surrounding communities, with residents expressing concern that bandits may be attempting to assert control in the area.
Local vigilante groups have stepped up night patrols, and several religious centres have reduced evening activities as a precaution.
The Isapa incident marks the third major attack on communities in Ekiti Local Government Area within a month.
Three weeks ago, 18 residents were kidnapped in Eruku before being rescued.
Last week, 38 worshippers were abducted during a thanksgiving service in a church in Eruku and were also later released.
