The United States Embassy in Abuja has issued a strong warning to Nigerians regarding the dangers of visa fraud, highlighting that providing false information or submitting counterfeit documents can lead to irreversible visa bans.

In a statement shared on X this Monday, the embassy stressed, “Visa fraud carries severe repercussions. Misrepresentation or the use of fake documents can result in permanent bans under US immigration law, meaning you will not be able to enter the country.”

This advisory was released following a meeting between US Ambassador Richard Mills and Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar, where they discussed potential areas for cooperation between the two nations.

“The United States is eager to continue collaborating with Nigeria on issues of shared importance,” the embassy noted.

The discussions come at a time of heightened diplomatic focus on Nigeria’s internal security challenges. Recently, some US lawmakers have expressed deep concern over violent attacks on communities, particularly in the North and Middle Belt regions, labeling these as significant violations of religious freedom. They have called for enhanced cooperation between the US and Nigerian governments to safeguard vulnerable populations.
