Kepa Arrizabalaga said a quick mental reset was key after Crystal Palace’s late equaliser forced Arsenal’s League Cup quarter-final into a shootout, where the goalkeeper made the decisive save to send the Gunners into the semi-finals.
Arsenal led through a Maxence Lacroix own goal in the 80th minute, only for Marc Guehi to level in stoppage time.
The tie went to penalties, and Kepa capped the night by saving Lacroix’s effort as Arsenal won the shootout 8-7.
“Emotionally, you have to be focused, be strong,” Kepa said. “When you concede in the last minute and go to penalties, you need to be 100% focused. So it was a change of mindset, and it worked.”
He also praised his teammates, adding: “Credit to the guys, they took amazing penalties. They kept us in the game and gave me the opportunity to make a save.”
Arsenal return to Premier League action at home to Brighton on Saturday.
