Antoine Semenyo marked what is expected to be his final appearance for Bournemouth with a
dramatic late winner in a 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, ending the
Cherries’ 11-game winless run.
The Ghana international struck in the closing minutes at the Vitality Stadium, sparking emotional
scenes as fans saluted a player widely seen as heading for the exit, with Manchester City having
triggered his €65 million release clause.
Head coach Andoni Iraola described the moment as a fitting farewell, calling it a “fairytale
ending” and praising Semenyo’s commitment, saying football sometimes rewards players who
stay fully committed.
He added that the forward never looked for excuses despite uncertainty over his future and was
always ready to give everything for the team.
Iraola said the club pushed hard to keep Semenyo until the last moment and felt he deserved to
leave with such a reception, stressing that beyond being a top player, he is also a top person.
Semenyo departs Bournemouth after four seasons, during which he made 110 appearances,
scored 32 goals and provided 11 assists, also becoming the eighth Ghanaian to reach 100 Premier
League games.
Manchester City are expected to complete the transfer imminently, with the 26-year-old set to
undergo a medical and sign his contract.
