Sanwo-Olu Appoints Alara of Ilara, Oba Ogunsanwo, as LASU’s 6th Chancellor
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appointed Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, as the sixth Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).
The appointment follows the completion of the tenure of Gbolahan Elias, SAN, who served as the fifth Chancellor of the university.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Emmanuel Fanu. According to the statement, the appointment was made in line with the provisions of the LASU Law 2004 (as amended), Chapter L69, Volume 7, Schedule 1, which empowers the Visitor to appoint the Chancellor of the institution.
The statement noted that the appointment is for a single term of five years, effective from Friday, February 13, 2026, and is renewable once.
Top officials of the university, including the Vice-Chancellor, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, have congratulated Oba Ogunsanwo on his appointment, expressing optimism about his leadership and its potential to advance the vision and mission of the institution.
The Lagos State Government and the university community also commended Prof. Elias for his contributions and the dignity with which he represented the university throughout his tenure.
