Law Firm Slams Social Media Attacks Amid Davido–Sophia Momodu Custody Battle
The law firm representing Sophia Momodu in her ongoing child custody dispute with Afrobeats star Davido has issued a stern warning over what it described as inflammatory and intimidating public commentary surrounding the case.
In a statement released on Monday, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors condemned a wave of social media outbursts allegedly directed at its partner, Ebelechukwu Enedah, over her professional conduct during proceedings at a Lagos State court. The firm emphasised that the matter is sub judice and should be determined solely by the court based on evidence and the law.
According to the statement, attempts to threaten or harass legal practitioners for carrying out their duties risk undermining the rule of law and the administration of justice. The firm noted that if lawyers are intimidated outside the courtroom for questioning witnesses and testing evidence, the integrity of the judicial process could be compromised.
The development follows a series of emotional posts by Davido last Friday, in which the singer expressed outrage over what he described as “insensitive remarks” made in court regarding his deceased son during cross-examination. In a widely circulated Instagram post, he criticised the lawyer involved, calling her “wicked” and “the worst lawyer ever,” while insisting he had prevailed in court.
Amid the online fallout, the singer mistakenly implicated gospel artiste Tosin Bee, triggering harassment on the musician’s social media pages. Tosin Bee promptly clarified the mix-up, stating he had no involvement in the matter and offering prayers and support to the singer.
The backlash against Enedah reportedly intensified to the point that she restricted access to her social media accounts, setting them to private.
Reaffirming its stance, the firm said it would deploy all lawful measures to protect the safety and professional independence of its lawyers and called on the Nigerian Bar Association and the global legal community to condemn actions capable of interfering with judicial proceedings.
Meanwhile, Davido has publicly stated that he never sought full custody of his daughter, Imade, but rather joint custody. He added that no one had truly “won” the case, lamenting the emotional toll of the proceedings and indicating his willingness to step back from the legal battle following the court exchanges.
The custody dispute, which is currently before a Lagos State High Court, stems from an originating motion filed by the singer seeking joint custody of his daughter with Momodu.
