United Nigeria Airlines has welcomed the first batch of 400-level Avionics Engineering students from Afe Babalola University to begin their six-month Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) internship with the airline.
The programme is designed to give the students practical industry exposure that will complement their academic training in avionics engineering.
Speaking during the welcome session, the airline’s Managing Director, Osita Okonkwo, urged the students to maximise the opportunity by gaining hands-on experience that would prepare them for professional careers in the aviation industry.
As part of the onboarding process, the students participated in introductory sessions focused on airline technical operations and the professional expectations required within the aviation sector.
The airline’s Line Maintenance Manager, Kwabena Adoma, alongside Benle Asemuah, briefed the students on aircraft maintenance procedures and the operational environment within the airline’s engineering unit.
In addition, the Director of Human Resources, Kelechi Asuquo, delivered a session highlighting workplace ethics, professionalism, and the discipline required to succeed in the aviation industry.
According to the airline, the six-month SIWES programme will expose the students to avionics systems, aircraft maintenance processes, and airline engineering operations, providing them with valuable real-world experience to strengthen their classroom learning.
