SENEGAL DEMAND CORRUPTION PROBE AFTER CAF STRIPS AFCON TITLE.
The Senegal government has called for an “independent international investigation,”
into alleged corruption at the Confederation of African Football after the country was
stripped of the 2025 AFCON title.
Senegal had beaten Morocco 1-0 in the final, but CAF overturned the result, ruling
the match was forfeited after a player walked off, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory.
In a strongly worded statement, the government described the ruling as an
“unprecedented and exceptionally serious decision” based on “a manifestly
erroneous interpretation of the regulations.”
It added, “Senegal unequivocally rejects this unjustified attempt at dispossession,”
while pushing for an external probe into “suspected corruption.”
The decision, which followed an appeal by the Moroccan FA, has escalated tensions,
with Senegal preparing to challenge the verdict on the global stage.
