SENEGAL PARADE AFCON TROPHY BEFORE SEEING OFF PERU IN PARIS.
Senegal national football team put off-field controversy to one side with a composed
2-0 victory over the Peru national football team in an international friendly at the Stade
de France.
The match came hours after Senegal publicly paraded the Africa Cup of Nations
trophy they have been ordered to return following a controversial ruling by
The Confederation of African Football, which overturned their final win against Morocco.
Led by captain Kalidou Koulibaly, the players carried out a lap of honour before
kickoff, placing the trophy in the presidential box in front of federation officials, in a
symbolic show of defiance as their appeal continues.
Despite resting key stars including Sadio Mane and Edouard Mendy, Senegal
delivered on the pitch.
Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring in the first half, while Ismaila Sarr sealed the
win after the break.
The build-up to the game was marked by strong support from Senegalese fans in
Paris, who turned out in large numbers to celebrate the team despite the ongoing
dispute.
Attention now shifts to the World Cup, where Senegal will face a challenging group
that includes the France national football team and the Norway national football team, as
they look to move forward from the AFCON controversy on a positive note.
