WAEC Releases 2026 Results — 32.7% Secure Key Credits as Thousands Await Full Processing
The West African Examinations Council has released details of the 2026 examination results, revealing that 32.72 percent of candidates obtained credit passes in at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics.
According to the council, a total of 10,480 candidates sat for the examination nationwide between January 28 and February 14, 2026. Of this number, 3,429 candidates achieved the benchmark requirement of five credits, including the core subjects.
Overall performance showed a broader success rate, with 4,598 candidates—representing 43.87 percent—earning credits in a minimum of five subjects, regardless of whether English and Mathematics were included.
The examination also recorded increased participation compared to 2025. A total of 10,523 candidates registered for the exam, up from 9,438 the previous year, marking an 11.49 percent rise. The exams were conducted across 166 centres nationwide.
In the marking process, 608 examiners were engaged at three locations—Lagos, Enugu, and Kaduna—between February 26 and March 13, 2026. WAEC further disclosed that 43 candidates with special needs participated, including visually impaired candidates, those with hearing impairments, and albinos.
Gender distribution showed a slight female majority, with 5,374 female candidates (51.28 percent) compared to 5,106 males (48.72 percent).
Out of all candidates, results for 8,418 have been fully processed and released. However, 2,062 candidates, representing 19.68 percent, still have some subjects pending due to errors attributed to them. The council assured that efforts are ongoing to complete the processing.
Meanwhile, WAEC confirmed that the results of 75 candidates have been withheld over alleged examination malpractice. The cases are currently under investigation, and findings will be reviewed by the appropriate committee, after which affected candidates will be duly informed.
