Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets to win the Monte Carlo
Masters and reclaim the world number one ranking.
The Italian triumphed 7-6(5), 6-3 to secure his third ATP 1000 title of the season,
extending his winning streak to 17 matches and completing a dominant run after
victories in Indian Wells and Miami.
“Today was a high level from both of us… the result is amazing,” Sinner said.
“Getting back to No. 1 means a lot.”
The 24-year-old becomes only the third player to win four straight ATP 1000 titles,
joining Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
Alcaraz, whose clay winning streak ended, admitted: “It is impressive what you are
achieving right now.”
Sinner recovered from an early deficit and surged late in the second set, winning five
straight games to seal his first major clay-court crown.
