Brig Gen Oseni Braimah, Others Killed in Borno Attack Laid to Rest
On Wednesday, the Nigerian Army held a burial ceremony for Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, Captain Ismail, and several other soldiers who lost their lives in a recent insurgent attack in Borno State. The ceremony took place at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, honoring the fallen with full military rites.
These soldiers were killed on April 9 during coordinated assaults by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province militants on military positions in Benisheikh, a key town in Kaga Local Government Area along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.
In a statement shared on its official Facebook page, the Army described the ceremony as deeply moving. “On April 15, 2026, we solemnly laid to rest Brigadier General Omo Braimah, Captain Ismail, and other brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. The burial in Maiduguri was marked by profound sorrow and reflection,” the statement noted.
The Army emphasized that their sacrifice serves as a stark reminder of the daily risks faced by the Armed Forces in maintaining Nigeria’s peace, unity, and security. Attendees included Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, and various senior military officials, who honored the deceased as true patriots who gave their lives for the nation.
Prayers were offered for the souls of the departed, and citations detailing their service were read in front of their grieving families. The Army highlighted that the pain experienced by the families reflects the significant human cost of the nation’s security efforts, even as the soldiers’ bravery remains a source of national pride.
