Sociedad made a dream start as Ander Barrenetxea struck after just 14 seconds, but
Atletico responded through Ademola Lookman, who fired home to level.
Mikel Oyarzabal restored Sociedad’s lead from the spot before half-time, only for
Julián Alvarez to equalise late and force extra time.
With neither side able to find a winner, the final went to penalties, where Unai
Marrero proved decisive, saving twice to hand Sociedad the trophy, sealed by Pablo
Marín’s winning kick.
The victory ends Sociedad’s long wait for Copa success, while Atletico’s difficult run
continues after another painful defeat.
