Convocation Party Turns Tragic as Stampede Kills Three in Ekiti Hotel
The Ekiti State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into a tragic incident at Emirate Hotel in Ikere-Ekiti that claimed the lives of three persons, including two students and a hotel staff member.
The Commissioner of Police, Falade Adegoroye Michael, ordered the probe following the घटना, which occurred during a post-convocation celebration organised by students of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology.
According to preliminary findings, the students had gathered at the hotel after their convocation ceremony on April 18, 2026. The celebration reportedly continued into the early hours of the next day.
Trouble began when an argument broke out between two unidentified students, escalating into a physical altercation. The situation quickly spiralled, causing panic among other guests at the venue.
In a bid to escape the disturbance, attendees rushed out of the hotel, resulting in a stampede that led to the deaths of the three victims.
The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited in a morgue for autopsy.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed in a statement that investigations are ongoing.
CP Adegoroye extended his condolences to the families and friends of the victims and urged the public to remain calm. He assured that the command is committed to uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the incident and bringing those responsible to justice.
