Nigerian Coach Targets Guinness Record with 48-Hour Leadership Marathon
Leadership coach Taiwo Isola is set to attempt a Guinness World Record for the longest continuous leadership lecture with a planned 48-hour teaching session scheduled from May 1 to 3 in Osogbo.
The event, titled The Leadership Marathon, will feature back-to-back sessions designed to engage professionals, aspiring leaders, and the general public in an intensive exploration of leadership. The programme will cover four key themes: Leading Self, Leading Others, Leading Organizations, and Leading Nations.
Speaking about the initiative, Isola said the marathon goes beyond breaking a record, describing it as a mission to reshape leadership values and promote responsibility across all levels of society. He noted that the programme aims to bridge the gap between performance and accountability while encouraging a leadership culture focused on service rather than personal gain.
“This is not just another leadership session,” he said. “It is about challenging how we think about leadership and pushing for a model that builds rather than exploits.”
The idea for the marathon stems from his experience teaching a course on Leading Nations at the African Development University, where he interacted with students from across Africa. According to him, those engagements revealed strong qualities of patriotism and responsibility among young people—traits he believes are essential for sustainable nation-building.
He also warned about what he described as a growing shift in leadership mindset, stressing that nations begin to decline when leaders prioritize personal gain over collective responsibility. Isola added that institutional decay is often gradual and can be masked by the appearance of normal governance.
Isola holds a Master’s degree in Education and an MBA in Leadership and Management. He is an alumnus of Lagos Business School and a recipient of the Embassy of Pakistan Teaching Excellence Award. He is also a certified peacebuilder under the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Young Peacebuilders Programme and has represented Nigeria at the United Nations Foundation Our Future Agenda.
Over the years, he has trained and mentored thousands of individuals in leadership development, education, and systems thinking across Nigeria and beyond.
Organisers say the marathon will be live-streamed, enabling global participation. The event is expected to attract significant attention as Isola pushes the limits of endurance teaching in pursuit of a world record while advocating for a new generation of responsible, service-driven leaders.
