SINNER TARGETS ‘GOLDEN MASTERS’ AFTER MADRID OPEN TRIUMPH.
World number one Jannik Sinner has turned his focus to completing the ‘Golden
Master’s in Rome after making history with another dominant title win in Madrid.
The Italian star crushed Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-2 in Sunday’s final to claim a fifth
straight Masters 1000 crown, following earlier victories in Paris, Indian Wells, Miami
and Monte Carlo.
“Playing at home is always special,” Sinner said ahead of next week’s tournament in
Rome. “I’m very happy to be returning there, but winning the tournament isn’t easy.”
The 24-year-old could become only the second man to win all nine Masters 1000
titles if he triumphs on home soil.
Despite his recent dominance, Sinner admitted that the mental pressure has been
intense.
“I want to enjoy this right now,” he said. “It has been a very long tournament and
there’s a lot of pressure.”
