LIVERPOOL BOSS SLOT ADMITS HE CANNOT CHANGE FANS’ OPINION THIS SEASON.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted he may not win back unhappy supporters
this season after sections of the Anfield crowd booed during Saturday’s 1-1 draw
against Chelsea.
The Reds surrendered an early lead after Ryan Gravenberch’s opener, with
frustration growing among fans during another disappointing home display.
“Not this season, by the way,” Slot said when asked if he could rebuild trust with
supporters. “But if we can have the summer that we are planning to have, then I’m
100 per cent convinced that we will be a different team next season.”
The Dutchman pointed to injuries and inconsistency as major problems during a
difficult campaign, despite Liverpool’s heavy spending last summer.
Slot also defended his decision to substitute teenager Rio Ngumoha, explaining the
youngster had complained of a muscle issue before being taken off to boos from the
crowd.
Meanwhile, Gravenberch urged supporters to continue backing the team.
“We need them behind us,” the midfielder said. “Fans have to support us for 90
minutes.”
