MITCHELL’S RECORD-TYING MASTERCLASS LEADS CAVALIERS PAST PISTONS.
Donovan Mitchell produced a stunning second-half display to inspire the Cleveland
Cavaliers to a 112-103 victory over the Detroit Pistons, leveling their NBA Eastern
Conference semi-final series at 2-2.
Mitchell exploded for 39 points after the break and finished with 43 overall as the Cavaliers recovered from a slow start at Rocket Arena.
The seven-time NBA All-Star took control in the third quarter, scoring 21 points
during a dominant 25-0 Cleveland run that completely changed the game.
His 39-point second half tied the NBA playoff record for most points scored in a
single half, matching Eric Floyd’s mark set in 1987.
“I tried to make a statement in the second half,” Mitchell said after admitting he
apologised to teammates for his first-half performance.
Detroit had led 56-52 at halftime, but struggled to respond once Mitchell caught fire,
with Cade Cunningham limited to 19 points.
The series now shifts back to Detroit for Game 5 on Wednesday.
