BENTO HOWLER DENIES AL NASSR TITLE GLORY IN DRAMATIC DERBY DRAW.
Al Nassr were seconds away from ending their long Saudi Pro League title drought
before a bizarre late own goal from goalkeeper Bento earned rivals Al Hilal a
dramatic 1-1 draw in Riyadh.
Jorge Jesus’ side looked set to seal the title after Mohamed Simakan gave Al Nassr
the lead in a tense derby clash featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix, and Karim
Benzema.
With celebrations already beginning inside the stadium, disaster struck in the final
moments when Bento rushed off his line and accidentally turned the ball into his own
net following a long throw into the box.
The stunning mistake left Cristiano Ronaldo visibly devastated on the bench as Al
Nassr’s title celebrations were postponed.
Al Hilal had threatened throughout the contest, with Benzema missing an early one
on one chance before having a goal ruled out for offside by VAR.
Ronaldo also came close for Al Nassr, while Bono produced an excellent save to
deny the Portuguese forward from a distance.
Despite the late heartbreak, Al Nassr can still clinch the league title if they defeat
Damac in their final match of the season.
