FLORENTINO PEREZ CALLS REAL MADRID ELECTIONS AND VOWS TO FIGHT ON.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has confirmed he will stand for re-election
after calling club elections at the end of a disappointing trophyless season.
Speaking on Tuesday, the 79-year-old dismissed speculation about stepping down
following growing unrest around the club.
“I am not going to resign,” Perez declared as he defended his leadership amid
criticism from supporters and sections of the media.
Real Madrid’s difficult campaign ended with defeat to Barcelona in Sunday’s El
Clásico at the Camp Nou, while the club also suffered a Champions League quarter-
final exit to Bayern Munich.
Perez blamed what he described as an “absurd campaign” against Real Madrid and
insisted he wants to protect the club’s interests.
“I want to put an end to this anti-Madrid current that wants to destroy Real Madrid,”
he said.
The veteran president also addressed recent dressing-room tensions, including the
training-ground clash between Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni,
admitting the incident reflected poorly on the club.
Perez has now overseen 26 years at Madrid across two spells and says he remains
determined to continue despite mounting pressure.
