Wike Takes Responsibility for Cows Roaming Abuja Streets
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accepted responsibility for the continued presence of cattle roaming major roads and streets across Abuja.
Speaking during his monthly media briefing on Monday, Wike admitted that the situation remained a concern despite ongoing efforts to improve the nation’s capital.
“I apologise that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja, I take responsibility,” the minister said.
Wike assured residents that the Federal Capital Territory Administration remained committed to resolving the issue while continuing infrastructure development across the territory.
According to him, the administration’s projects are not limited to the city centre but extend to satellite towns and Area Councils across the FCT.
“Our attention is not only on developing the city centres of Abuja. We are also working in all the Area Councils. We are providing infrastructure everywhere across the FCT,” he stated.
The minister highlighted ongoing projects in road construction, water supply and housing for public officials.
He also announced that the FCT Administration would begin a series of project inaugurations in collaboration with President Bola Tinubu as part of activities marking the administration’s third anniversary in office.
“To celebrate Mr President’s three years in office, the FCTA will commission projects for the next 31 days commencing June 8, 2026,” Wike said.
He maintained that road projects executed across the FCT had improved access and strengthened security in several communities.
The issue of roaming cattle has remained a recurring challenge in Abuja for years, with residents and motorists frequently raising concerns over safety risks and obstruction caused by livestock on major roads.
Wike further insisted that residents could already feel the impact of policies and infrastructure projects introduced under the Tinubu administration.
